Dollar Stronger after the Release of FOMC Minutes Today

At 16:10 Beirut time, the Euro was quoted at €/$ 1.1109, the equivalent of €/LBP 1,674.68, depreciating by 0.29% against the US Dollar. The dollar grew stronger against the euro today after the Federal Reserve released its latest Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) minutes in which it states that it will “gradually slow the pace of asset purchases to promote a smooth transition in markets.”

Locally, the Lebanese Pound appreciated against the Dollar standing at $/LP 1,513-1,514 with a mid-price of $/LP 1,513.50 compared to yesterday’s $/LP 1,513.5-1,514 with a mid-price of $/LP 1,513.75.

Compared to the pool of currencies of Lebanon’s major trading partners, the purchasing power of the Lebanese Pound appreciated as reflected by the NEER, published by BLOMINVEST, which registered a 0.30% uptick to 168.24 points today.
