Port of Beirut’s Revenues Up to $56.96M by March 2016

Activity at the Port of Beirut (PoB) remained resilient in the first Quarter (Q1) of 2016 as the port’s revenues recorded a double-digit yearly increase of 12.35% to $56.96M.

Total container activity including transshipment (TEU+TS) grew by an annual 6.83% to 269,876 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) by March 2016. In details, container activity excluding transshipment increased by 17.98% y-o-y to 193,494 TEU, while transshipment activity alone declined by an annual 13.81% to 76,382 TEU in Q1 2016.

MSC and CMA CGM, the two major shipping/logistic firms operating at the port, witnessed yearly increases in transshipment activity of 22.13% and 2.12% to 56,605 TEU and 37,303 TEU, respectively.

Details of the port’s activity by March 2016 compared to the same period in 2015 were as follows:

The number of ships that docked at the PoB increased from 425 in Q1 2015 to 510 in 2016.

The total volume of imported and exported merchandise rose from 1,811 thousand tons in 2015 to 2,174 thousand tons in 2016.

The number of imported cars also registered an upturn from 20,843 cars in Q1 2015 to 25,627 cars in Q1 2016.
