Port of Beirut’s Revenues Went Up to $77.58M by April 2016

Activity at the Port of Beirut (PoB) remained resilient in the first four months of 2016 as the port’s revenues recorded a yearly increase of 7.50% to $77.58M.

Total container activity including transshipment (TEU+TS) grew by an annual 9.43% to 379,937 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) by April 2016. In details, container activity excluding transshipment increased by 17.25% y-o-y to 264,754 TEU, while transshipment activity alone declined by an annual 5.10% to 115,183 TEU by April 2016.

MSC, one of the two major shipping/logistic firms operating at the port, witnessed yearly increase in transshipment activity of 3.80% to 65,011 TEU, while the transshipment activity of its competitor CMA CGM dropped by 12.65% to 43,159 TEU by April 2016.

Details of the port’s activity by April 2016 compared to the same period in 2015 were as follows:

The number of ships that docked at the PoB increased from 565 by April 2015 to 699 in the same period of 2016.

The total volume of imported and exported merchandise rose from 2,454.7 thousand tons in 2015 to 2,882.3 thousand tons in 2016.

The number of imported cars also registered an upturn from 31,133 cars by April 2015 to 35,050 cars by April 2016.
