Port of Beirut’s Revenues Drop Incrementally by Aug. 2017

Port of Beirut’s (PoB) revenues marginally declined by 0.98% year-on-year (y-o-y) to stand at $158.96M by August 2017.

Total container activity including transshipment (TEU+TS) stood at 846,872 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU), up by an annual 9.95% in the first 8 months of 2017. In details, Container activity excluding Transshipment gained 3.19% y-o-y to 585,809 TEU, while Transshipment activity rose by an annual 28.93% to 261,059 TEU in the same period.

MSC and CMA CGM, the two major shipping/logistic firms functioning at the port, observed yearly rises of 17.9% and 24.22% in transshipment activity, to stand at 129,216 TEU and 97,943 TEU, respectively, by August 2017.

The number of ships that docked at PoB fell to 1,202 ships by July 2017, compared to 1,390 ships in the same period of 2016.

As for the number of imported cars, they rose from 69,617 by Aug. 2016 to 75,068 cars by Aug. 2017.
