Port of Beirut’s Revenues Drop to $174.49M by Q3 2017

Port of Beirut (PoB) recorded a 3.31% yearly drop in its revenues to reach $174.49M during the first three quarters of the year.

By September, total container activity including transshipment (TEU+TS) rose by an annual 10.59% to 952,375 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU). In details, container activity excluding transshipment grew by 3.78% year-on-year (y-o-y) to 660,329 TEU, while transshipment activity escalated by an annual 29.79% to 291,842 TEU by September 2017.

MSC and CMA CGM, the two major shipping/logistic firms functioning at the port, observed yearly rises in transshipment activity of 19.37% to 145,637 TEU and 25.63% to 108,546 TEU, respectively by September 2017.

The total volume of imported and exported merchandise slightly dropped by 3.02% y-o-y to 6,400 tons during the first nine months of the year.

The number of ships that docked at the PoB reached 1,410 by September 2017, compared to 1,552 in the same period of 2016.

As for the number of imported cars, they registered an increase of 1% from 79,065 cars by September 2016 to 79,846 cars by September 2017.
