Port of Beirut’s Revenues Up to $39.85M by February 2018

Activity at the Port of Beirut (PoB) witnessed an improvement by February 2018 as the port’s revenues recorded a 10.29% yearly increase to $39.85M.

Total container activity including transshipment (TEU+TS) grew by an annual 12.43% to 212,561 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) by February 2018. In details, container activity excluding transshipment increased by 5.52% y-o-y to 137,339 TEU, and transshipment activity alone surged by an annual 27.70% to 75,222 TEU by the second month of the year.

MSC, one of the two major shipping/logistic firms operating at the port, witnessed a yearly increase in transshipment activity of 8.57% to 40,315 TEU, while CMA CGM observed a yearly drop in transshipment activity of 16.74% to 22,107 TEU.

Details of the port’s activity by February 2018 compared to the same period in 2017 were as follows:

The number of ships that docked at the PoB increased from 291 in February 2017 to 311 in 2018.

The total volume of imported and exported merchandise rose from 1,341 thousand tons in 2017 to 1,361 thousand tons in 2018.

The number of imported cars registered a plunge from 18,005 cars by February 2017 to 12,677 cars during the same period in 2018.
