Port of Beirut Revenues Up in the First Half of 2018

 

In the First half of 2018, activity at the Port of Beirut (PoB) improved, with the port’s revenues recording a 2.29% growth to stand at $118.7M compared to $116M for the same period in 2017.

Total container activity including transshipment (TEU+TS) recorded an increase of 1.86% to reach 629,323 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) by June 2018. In details, container activity excluding transshipment rose by 0.61% to 431,674 TEU, while transshipment activity alone increased by 4.57% to 207,649 TEU in H1 2018.

The volume of the merchandised passing through the port declined by 7.90% to reach 3,916 tons in the first half of 2018 comparing to 4,252 tons for the same period in 2017. Following the same trend, the number of cars shipped to Lebanon decreased from 57,522 cars in the first half of 2017 to 38,835 cars in H1 2018.

In details, MSC’s transshipment volume saw an increase of 4.57% by the first half of 2018 to reach 128,438 TEU in June 2018. However, CMA CGM’s transshipment volume witnessed a decrease of 1.57% by the first half of 2018 and reached 76,300 TEU compared to 77,516 TEU in the first half of 2017.
