The BSI Remains in the Red for the Third Week in a Row

 The BLOM Stock Index (BSI) lost 0.41% over the past week to 1,147.84 points. The average weekly traded volume rose from 199,756 to 241,955 and the average traded value also increased from $1.79M to $2.15M.

The market capitalization slid from $9.57B last week to $9.53B this week.

Regionally, the MSCI Emerging Markets Index registered a 1.06% weekly drop while the S&P AFE40 recorded a 0.25% rise, during this week’s performance.

In the Arab world, the Kuwaiti and Saudi bourses registered the largest gains for the week with respective weekly rises of 1.06% and 0.69%. However, Qatar and Bahrain’s stock markets witnessed weekly losses of 2.39% and 0.61%, respectively.

On the Beirut Stock Exchange (BSE), the real estate sector accounted for 60.69% of total traded value, while the banking sector accounted for the remaining 39.31%.

In the real estate sector, Solidere A and B shares fell by 1.25% and 3.13% to end the week at $7.89 and $7.73, respectively.

In the banking sector, BLOM Bank and Audi GDR shares fell by 0.88% and 0.17% to settle at $12.38 and $6, respectively. Moreover, Bank Audi’s listed shares fell by 0.99% to stand at $5.98. Meanwhile, BLOM Bank’s Listed shares gained 0.88% to stand at $11.40.

As for the BLOM Preferred Shares Index (BPSI), it dropped by 0.10% to 104.92 points. In details, Audi Preferred I shares and Bank of Beirut’s Preferred J shares gained 0.10% and 0.20% to stand at $101.20 and $25.30, respectively. However, Byblos Preffered 2008 shares fell by 0.98% to $101.

On the London Stock Exchange (LSE), BLOM Bank’s GDR shares fell 2% to $12.25 while Bank Audi’s GDR shares gained 1% to $6.09.

The BSI’s mixed performance this week was on the back of the continuing clashes between the Lebanese army and ISIS in the outskirts of Ras Baalbeck and Al-Qaa. As such, further security developments might further weigh on the Lebanese stocks’ performance in the upcoming weeks.
