Number of Construction Permits Down by 2.71% in Q1 2017

According to the Orders of Engineers in Beirut and Tripoli, the number of construction permits dropped by a yearly 2.71% to stand at 4,165 permits in Q1 of 2017. The Construction Area Authorized by Permits (CAP) also fell by an annual 1.25% to 3.16M square meters (sqm).

In a regional breakdown, Mount Lebanon grasps the largest share (36.25% of total permits), with 1,510 construction permits issued in Q1 2017, down by an annual 4.92%. In the South of Lebanon (grasping 17.6% of total), construction permits also fell by 12.63% y-o-y to stand at 733 allocated permits in Q1 2017. In Nabatiyeh (13.37% of total), 557 permits were issued by March 2017, also down by 9.28% compared to Q1 2016. However, in the North (19% of total permits) and Beirut (4.32% of total), the number of construction permits rose by 24.34% and 7.14% y-o-y to 802 and 180 permits, respectively by March 2017.
