The annual, cumulative revenues of the Port of Beirut (PoB) ended 2016 with an incremental increase of 0.02%, to stand at $238.96M, compared to $238.92M by December 2015.
In details, total container activity including transshipment (TEU+TS) added 1.5% to stand at 1.15M twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU). Container activity excluding transshipment gained momentum, rising by 7.14% y-o-y to 855,631 TEU, while transshipment activity declined by an annual 12.09% to 291,588 TEU by end-2016.
In terms of PoB’s key shipping players, the transshipment activities of both, MSC and CMA CGM declined by 17.33% and 3.9% to settle at 152,331 TEU and 117,344 TEU, respectively, over the same period.
The total volume of imported and exported merchandise rose by 6.33% y-o-y to 8,737 tons by December 2016.
Over the same period, the number of ships docking at PoB climbed to 2,014, compared to 1,807 by December 2015, whereas the number of imported cars fell from 111,921 cars by December 2015, to 111,273 cars by end-2016.
