Port of Beirut’s Revenues Down by 2.94% YOY by May 2017

The Port of Beirut’s revenues (PoB) declined in the first five months of 2017 by a yearly 2.94% to $95.89M.

Total container activity including transshipment (TEU+TS) rose by 5.64% on an annual basis to 508,189 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) by May 2017.

In details, container activity alone grew by 2.41% year-on-year to 349,017 TEU while the transshipment activity increased by 13.49% year-on-year to 159,168 TEU.

MSC, one of the two major shipping/logistic firms operating at the port, witnessed a yearly rise in transshipment activity of 11.19% to 83,309 TEU, while the transshipment activity of CMA CGM increased by 5.24% to 60,142 TEU by May 2017.

Details of the port’s activity by April 2017 compared to the same period in 2016 were as follows:

The number of ships that docked at the PoB fell from 885 by May 2016 to 784 in the same period of 2017.

The total volume of imported and exported merchandise fell from 3,656.4 thousand tons by May 2016 to 3,599.9 thousand tons by May 2017.

The number of imported cars grew from 45,225 cars by May 2016 to 50,878 cars by May 2017.
