Port of Beirut’s Revenues Inched up 0.49% by July 2016

Port of Beirut (PoB) registered a 0.49% yearly increase in its revenues during the first seven months of the year to reach $139.52M.

Total container activity including transshipment (TEU+TS) rose by an annual 0.8% to 670,496 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) by July 2016. Particularly, container activity excluding transshipment grew by 8.72% year-on-year (y-o-y) to 488,711 TEU, while transshipment activity plunged by an annual 15.70% to 181,785 TEU by July 2016.

Both MSC and CMA CGM, the two major shipping/logistic firms functioning at the port, observed yearly falls in transshipment activity of 19.27% to 98,643 TEU and 7.88% to 71,057 TEU by July  2016, respectively.

The number of ships that docked at the PoB reached increased 1,210 by July 2016, compared to 1,012 in the same period of 2015.

The total volume of imported and exported merchandise mounted 12.04% y-o-y to 5,170 tons by July 2016.

As for the number of imported cars, they also recorded a rise from 58,813 cars by July  2015 to 61,218 cars by July  2016.
