Recovering Real Estate Activity Positively Affected Cement Deliveries

Cement deliveries observed an upward trend by June 2016, rising by 10% to 2.50M tons compared to 2.27M tons by June 2015.  This rise could be partially justified by the recovering construction activity since the beginning of the year, where the number of construction permits increased by a yearly 13.82% to reach 8,408 by June 2016.

In fact, the six-month moving average of the number of cement deliveries is recuperating from last year’s low levels; however, the mentioned average remains among the lowest within the last 6 years, since the construction activity has been subdued since 2010.

In the month of June alone, cement deliveries dropped significantly, decreasing 11.25% to 418,887 tons compared to a higher level of 474,479 tons in June 2015, which could be partly linked to the slowing construction activity during the month of Ramadan.
