Registered New Cars Dropped by 2.13% by May 2014

As stated in the latest released figures by the Association of Car Importers in Lebanon (AIA), by the end of the fifth month of 2014 a rise in the registration of new passenger and commercial cars by 2.13% was reached with 15,448 vehicles compared to 15,126 vehicles in the same period last year. This increase was due to a 2.67% change in the number of registered new passenger vehicles to 14,558 by May 2014 compared to 14,179 the same period a year earlier. However, commercial car registration declined by -6.02% YTD from 947 to 890. The majority of the Lebanese market was seized by Asian cars with Korean cars’ share attaining 43.28% followed by 33.08% grasped by Japan. As for the car sales breakdown by brand, Kia topped the list holding a 24.19% share of the total, followed by Hyundai (19.08%), Nissan (12.80%), Toyota (12.00%) and Renault (3.38%).
