Port of Beirut’s Revenues Down to $55.32M by March 2017

Activity at the Port of Beirut (PoB) dropped in the first Quarter (Q1) of 2017 as the port’s revenues recorded a yearly decrease of 2.88% to $55.32M.

Nonetheless, total container activity including transshipment (TEU+TS) grew by an annual 6.38% to 287,102 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) by March 2017. In details, container activity excluding transshipment increased by 3.27% y-o-y to 199,819 TEU, while transshipment activity alone escalated by an annual 14.27% to 87,283 TEU in Q1 2017.

MSC and CMA CGM, the two major shipping/logistic firms operating at the port, witnessed yearly rises in transshipment activity of 22.13% and 7.07% to 58,033 TEU and 39,940 TEU, respectively.

Details of the port’s activity by March 2017 compared to the same period in 2016 were as follows:

The number of ships that docked at the PoB fell from 510 in Q1 2016 to 461 in 2017.

The total volume of imported and exported merchandise marginally rose from 2,174 thousand tons in 2016 to 2,179 thousand tons in 2017.

The number of imported cars also registered an upturn from 25,627 cars in Q1 2016 to 29,328 cars in Q1 2017.
