According to the Orders of Engineers in Beirut and Tripoli, the number of construction permits dropped by a yearly 6.29% to stand at 5,485 permits by April 2017. The Construction Area Authorized by Permits (CAP) also fell by an annual 17.69% to 3.5M square meters (sqm).
In a regional breakdown, Mount Lebanon grasped the largest share (35.86% of total permits), with 1,967 construction permits issued by Apr.2017, down by an annual 9.1%. In the South of Lebanon (grasping 16.9% of total), construction permits also fell by 14.8% y-o-y to stand at 927 allocated permits in the same period. In Nabatiyeh (13.64% of total), 748 permits were issued by Apr. 2017, also down by 9% compared to the same period in 2016. However, in the North (20.24% of total permits), the number of construction permits rose by 12.8% year-on-year (y-o-y) to 1,110 permits. Also, in Beirut (4.41% of total), the number of construction permits rose by 4.8% to stand at 242 permits by Apr. 2017.
