Port of Beirut’s Revenues Increased By May 2018

The revenues of the Port of Beirut increased by 3.47% by May 2018 to reach $99.22 million compared to $95.89 million on a year-on-year basis. The number of ships that docked at the Port of Beirut decreased by 3.19% by May 2018 and reached 759 ships compared to 784 ships by May 2017. Also, the volume of the merchandise passing through the port declined by 7.31% to reach 3.34 million tons compared with 3.60 million tons by May 2017. Moreover, the number of cars shipped to Lebanon decreased by 34.16% by May 2018 to reach 33,499 cars compared with 50,878 cars by May 2017. However, the total container activity (including transshipment) increased by 3.18% by May 2018 and reached 524.37 thousand TEU (twenty foot equivalent unit) by May 2018 compared with 508.19 thousand TEU by May 2017.

Total transshipment volume at the Port of Beirut increased by 6.45% by May 2018 and reached 169.43 thousand TEU by May 2018. In details, MSC’s transshipment volume has seen a decrease of 13.11% by May 2018 and reached 14.48 thousand TEU by May 2018. However, CMA CGM’s transshipment volume increased by 20.26% by May 2018 to reach 14.46 thousand TEU by May 2018.
