Port of Beirut Revenues down by 13.97% y-o-y to $119.30M by July 2019

Figures released by the Port of Beirut (PoB) show that the port’s revenues fell by a yearly 13.97% to stand at $119.30M by July 2019. In details, total container activity including transshipment (TEU+TS) decreased by an annual 2.23% and totaled 740,030 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).The breakdown of container activity showed container activity excluding transshipment (TEU) dropped by 10.14% to reach 457,787 TEU. On the other hand, transshipment (TS) activity increased by 13.13% to 280,000 TEU by July 2019.

Local shipments by MSC were at 135,330TEU, a 9.37% decrease from the previous year while their transshipment volume dropped from 157,293 TEU to 142,402 TEU. Meanwhile, local shipments by CMA CGM reached 80,978 TEU, a 10.21% decrease compared to the same period last year, while their transshipment volume retreated from 112,336 TEU to 93,864TEU.

In addition, the total volume of imported and exported merchandise declined by an annual 10.91% to 4119.02 tons and the number of imported cars also slid by a yearly 15.02% to 37,384. The number of ships docking at PoB fell from 1,091 by July 2018 to 1,016 by July 2019.
