Cement Deliveries Declined by 52.02% to 748,324 tons y-o-y by June 2020

Data released by Banque Du Liban revealed that Cement deliveries significantly dropped by an annual 52.02% to stand at 748,324 tons by June 2020, compared to 1.56M tons by June 2019. In addition, the six-month moving average of the number of cement deliveries declined by 52.02% year-on-year (y-o-y), to reach 124,721 tons during the first six months of 2020.

The performance of the Lebanese Cement industry is mainly related to that of construction and Real Estate. Lebanon has been witnessing an economic crisis, which is reflected by the 66.19% yearly slump in the construction Area authorized by permits to reach 1.7M square meters by June 2020. Meanwhile, the real estate sector performance shifted upwards in the same period as depositors were encouraged to invest in Real estate. As a result, the total number of real estate transactions climbed by an annual 23.95% to 27,216 in H1 2020.
