Beirut’s International Airport welcomed 1.44million (M) passengers in the first 6 months of 2021 compared to 1.25M passengers during the same period last year.
The breakdown of the airport’s statistics revealed that total arrivals added 29.57% year-on-year (YOY) to hit 730,703 by June 2021. By the same token, the number of departing passengers climbed by a yearly 4.52% to reach 678,459 over the same period. Meanwhile, transit passengers decreased from 36,384 by June 2020 to 34,418 passengers by June 2021.That said, the numbers are expected to increase in the coming two months because of the tourist season, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
In addition, data on occupancy as per E&Y benchmark survey revealed that the occupancy rate at Beirut’s 4- and 5- stars hotels fell to a low of 27% by March 2021. And the average room rate rose by 193.9% from $76 in March 2020 to $224 in March 2021. However, the increase is inflated by valuing the room rates at the overvalued official exchange rate of 1,500 LBP per USD.
