The Number of Airport Passengers Up by a yearly 69.84% in December 2021

The activity at Rafic Hariri International Airport improved in the first 12 months of the year despite a rough summer and holiday’s season and shy tourism during this period. Consequently, the number of Beirut’s International airport passengers went up by 69.84%, as it recorded 4.32 million (M) passengers by December 2021 compared to 2.54M passengers during the same period last year.

The breakdown of the airport’s statistics revealed that total arrivals added 76.64% year-on-year (YOY) to hit 2.07M by December 2021. By the same token, the number of departing passengers climbed by a yearly 69.76% to reach 2.18M over the same period. Nevertheless, transit passengers decreased from 87,651 by December 2020 to 70,332 passengers by December 2021. The increase in airport passengers was affected notably by the Christmas and New Year holidays at end of 2021; interesting to note though the slight increase in departures over arrivals for the year.
