Lebanon expects a “hot” summer season as the number of arrivals is improving

The activity at Rafic Hariri International Airport improved remarkably in the first 5 months of the year 2022. Consequently, the number of Beirut’s International airport passengers went up by 89.04%, as it recorded 1,988,574 passengers by May 2022 compared to 1,051,913 passengers during the same period last year.

The breakdown of the airport’s statistics revealed that total arrivals added 94.53% year-on-year (YOY) to hit 964,332 by May 2022. By the same token, the number of departing passengers climbed by a yearly 90.79% to reach 1,011,820 over the same period. Nevertheless, transit passengers decreased from 25,407 by May 2021 to 12,422 passengers by May 2022.

Lebanon is expecting thousands and maybe millions of tourists and expatriates in the summer season. In fact, the tourism sector is getting healed after the worldwide pandemic period. Lebanon must benefit from the foreign currency that will be injected it in the country by the tourists; and it should speed up the negotiations with the IMF in order to revive other productive sectors.
