Port of Beirut: Cumulative Total Container Activity Rose 20.58% YoY by May 2026 to 398,011 TEU

Cumulative container activity at the Port of Beirut rose by 20.58% year-over-year (YoY) to 398,011 TEU by May 2026. Cumulative container activity, referring to cargo loaded onto or unloaded from ships at the port saw an increase of 12.80% YoY to 293,657 TEU. Similarly, cumulative transshipment activity, which involves cargo transferred from one ship to another at an intermediate port, increased by 49.58% YoY to 104,354 TEU.

The continued rise in container activity by May 2026 reflects sustained import demand and the Port of Beirut’s key role as Lebanon’s main trade and transshipment hub. The relative easing of security tensions following the mid-April ceasefire likely supported smoother cargo handling and shipping activity.

On a monthly basis the total activity increased by 8.53% to 85,365 TEU compared to April 2026. This increase points to a pickup in shipping activity during May, as higher cargo volumes moved through the port following the slight slowdown recorded in April.
