Port of Beirut Revenues Plunged 44.25% Annually in H1 2020

Port of Beirut’s latest Statistics revealed a 44.25% year-on-year (YOY) decline in its revenues to reach $56.92M in the first half (H1) of 2020, due to the sluggish activity it witnessed.

Total container activity including transshipment (TEU+TS) decreased by a yearly 33.17% to 414,954 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU), by June 2020. In details, container activity (TEU) alone declined by 45.26% to 211,535 TEU and Transshipment activity (TS) fell by 13.26% YOY to 203,419 TEU in H1 2020.

Accordingly, the transshipment volume of CMA CGM, one of the two major shipping lines operating at the Port of Beirut, decreased by 5.34%, compared to the same period last year, to stand at 71,432 TEU. Similarly, the transshipment activity of MSC declined by 32.38% YOY to 82,268 TEU, by June 2020. In addition, the local volumes of CMA CGM and MSC also plunged by 38.23% and 51.32% to 39,957 TEU and 56,655 TEU, respectively, in H1 2020.
