IMF Article IV Consultation for Lebanon 2019: Substantial Measures are still in need to reduce the exceptionally large domestic and external imbalances

 Under Article IV of the IMF’s Articles of Agreement, the IMF holds bilateral discussions with members, usually every year. In the context of the 2019 Article IV consultation with Lebanon, the staff report has been released. In details, the Staff Report is prepared by a staff team of the IMF for the Executive Board’s consideration on September 11, 2019, following discussions that ended on July 2, 2019, with the officials of Lebanon on economic developments and policies. Based on information available at the time of these discussions, the staff report was completed on August 21, 2019. Worth mentioning that the report was published on October 17, 2019 prior to the widespread social protests and the government’s resignation.
