Cumulative Lebanese Cars Market Increased by 21.07% YoY by May 2026

According to market sources, cumulative Lebanese car market increased by 21.07% year-over-year (YoY) by May 2026, recording 4,965 cars.

On a monthly basis, car sales increased by 33.52% to 972 vehicles in May 2026 compared to April 2026, likely reflecting a gradual improvement in consumer demand and market activity despite the challenging economic and security environment. The distribution of cars sold was as follows:

Furthermore, the leading sellers of vehicles in Lebanon were Toyota, Nissan, and MG with number of vehicles sold in May 2026 alone totaled 306, 138, and 57 respectively.

It is interesting to note that in May 2026, the share of non-gasoline cars and SUV (Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid and Fully Electric cars) recorded a total of 291 automobiles, distributed as follows:

Sales of new cars are much lower now compared to 2019 (10,560) before the financial crisis exploded. Currently, the demand for new vehicles is constrained by the absence of financing options, exacerbated by the lower purchasing power of the people. However, there has been some improvement in the past few years, and recent numbers up to May 2026 show more car registrations (4,965). Despite this increase, the number of cars sold is still, as mentioned, much lower than the sales figures from 2019. This shows that while the market is indeed recovering, it still faces big challenges and is far from returning to its pre-crisis levels.
