Explaining the Lower Relative Customs Rate in 2025: Is it in Gold Imports?
In its issue of Monday, 4/5/2026, Al-Akhbar newspaper published an article on customs revenues and raised the interesting point that, despite more and better control and the use of sophisticated technologies, the customs rate fell from 7.3% in 2016 to 4.5% in 2025[1]. We would like to investigate this observation, and check its validity and some of the reasons behind it and how to reverse it, if possible.
