Port of Beirut: Cumulative Total Container Activity Rose 34.74% YoY by March 2026 to 242,265 TEU
Cumulative container activity at the Port of Beirut rose by 34.74% year-over-year (YoY) to 242,265 TEU by March 2026. Cumulative container activity, referring to cargo loaded onto or unloaded from ships at the port saw an increase of 27.62% YoY to 174,461 TEU. Similarly, cumulative transshipment activity, which involves cargo transferred from one ship to another at an intermediate port, increased by 57.31% YoY to 67,804 TEU.
The increase can be largely attributed to the heightened demand for imported goods following the escalation of the Israel-Hezbollah war in late February 2026. The conflict disrupted domestic economic activity and supply chains, increasing Lebanon’s reliance on maritime imports. Moreover, the rise in transshipment activity reflects the Port of Beirut’s continued importance as a regional logistics hub, despite ongoing geopolitical tensions and security challenges.
On a monthly basis the total activity increased by 8.14% to 74,381 TEU compared to February 2026, as the Port of Beirut maintained its operational capacity despite ongoing security challenges, allowing trade flows and transshipment activity to gradually recover.
