Number of Construction Permits Down to 6,097 by May 2018

According to the Orders of Engineers in Beirut and Tripoli, the number of construction permits fell by a yearly 14.5% to reach 6,097 by May 2018. The Construction Area Authorized by Permits (CAP) also dropped by an annual 18.5% to 4.4 million square meters (sqm).

The region where the biggest portion of permits was allocated was Mount Lebanon with 2,426 construction permits by May 2018, down by 3.8% compared to May 2017. 1,124 permits were allocated in the region of South Lebanon by May 2018, contracting by an annual 6.7% in the same period last year. In Beirut, the number of construction permits retreated by 3.6% y-o-y to stand at 295 permits by May 2018, while that of Nabatiye witnessed a 15.9% yearly down tick to settle at 799 over the same period.

In the North, the number of permits plunged by an annual 42.05% to 878 by May 2018, with the CAP declining by 24.1% to 928,489 sqm in 2018.
