Port of Beirut: Cumulative Total Container Activity Rose 24.34% YoY by April 2026 to 312,646 TEU

Cumulative container activity at the Port of Beirut rose by 24.34% year-over-year (YoY) to 312,646 TEU by April 2026. Cumulative container activity, referring to cargo loaded onto or unloaded from ships at the port saw an increase of 20.91% YoY to 234,077 TEU. Similarly, cumulative transshipment activity, which involves cargo transferred from one ship to another at an intermediate port, increased by 35.82% YoY to 78,569 TEU.

The rise in container activity by April 2026 reflects continued import demand and the strategic importance of the Port of Beirut as Lebanon’s main trade hub despite the renewed Israel-Hezbollah conflict that began in late February. The partial easing of tensions following the mid-April ceasefire also supported cargo handling and transshipment operations, contributing to higher container traffic during the period.

On a monthly basis the total activity decreased by 1.74% to 70,381 TEU compared to March 2026. This slight decline likely reflects the continued impact of security concerns and economic uncertainty stemming from the ongoing conflict, which weighed on trade activity despite the ceasefire announced in mid-April.
