Port of Beirut: Container Activity down by 0.81% by March 2024  

Total container activity including transshipment (TEU+TS) slightly fell by a yearly 0.81% to stand at 178,946 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) for the month of March 2024, with transshipment activity (TS) adding 5.53% YOY to 56,238 TEU, while container activity (TEU) dropped by 3.47% on a yearly basis to 122,708 TEU by March 2024.

On a monthly basis, total container activity dropped by 2.64% to stand at 62,417 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), while container activity (TEU) dropped by 0.91% for the month of March 2024 compared to same month last year to reach 45,294 TEU. Similarly, transshipment activity (TS) declined by 6.93% to 17,123 TEU for the month of March 2024, compared to 18,397 TEU in March 2023.

In more details, the transshipment volume of CMA CGM, one of the two major shipping lines operating at the Port of Beirut, increased annually by 7.27% to stand at 44,008 TEU by March 2024. Similarly, transshipment volume of MSC, the other major line, increased by 58.14% YOY to 4,469 TEU by the same month. Furthermore, the local volume of CMA CGM dropped by 6.63% to reach 35,878 TEU, and local volume of MSC fell by 10% to stand at 25,682 TEU by the month of March 2024.
