The BLOM Stock Index (BSI) compiled by BLOMInvest Bank on a daily basis increased weekly by 0.5% to reach 1,668.829 on May 31st, 2024 up from 1,660.516 on May 24th, 2024. Similarly, the market capitalization on the Beirut Stock Exchange (BSE) rose weekly from $17.02B to $17.1B. The average volume and value of trades also totaled 26,201 shares worth $1,835,440 compared to 43,932 shares worth $2,500,664 last week.

On the Beirut Stock Exchange (BSE), the real estate sector grasped the lion’s share of the BSE’s trading value with a stake of 84.2%, the industrial sector grasped 15.13%, while the banking sector grasped the remaining 0.67%. The most noteworthy trades throughout the mentioned period included:

  • Solidere (A) shares rose by 0.07% to settle at $70.05 / share
  • Solidere (B) shares dropped by 0.43% to settle at $69.7 / share
  • Byblos Listed shares rose by 11.67% to settle at $0.67 / share
  • Holcim shares rose by 4.52% to settle at $65.85 / share
  • CB(N) shares rose by 1.59% to settle at $32/ share

As for the BLOM Preferred Shares Index (BPSI), it remained constant at 35.15 by May 31st, 2024.

The Arab stock market contracted this week as S&P Pan Arab and MSCI dropped respectively by 2.65% and 1% to stand at 911.35and 1072.11 points by the end of this week. Moreover, the bourse of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait contracted respectively by 4.11%, 2.54% and 1.31% while bourse of Tunisia expanded by 1.19% by May 31st, 2024.

The US market also contracted this week as S&P 500 dropped by 1.31% to stand at 5,235.48 points, meanwhile NASDAQ contracted by 1.09% to stand at 16,737.08 points by May 31st, 2024 compared to the previous week.

Europe’s stock markets contracted this week as DAX Germany, CAC 40 France and FTSE 100 Britain declined respectively by 1.13%, 1.45% and 0.64% to stand at 18,482.06, 7,977.85, and 8,264.52 points by May 31st compared to the previous week. Similarly, NIKKEI Japan declined by 0.41% to reach 38,487.9 points by May 31st compared to the previous week.
