Port of Beirut: Container Activity down by 7.3% by April 2024  

Total container activity including transshipment (TEU+TS) fell by a yearly 7.3% to stand at 225,661 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) for the month of April 2024, with transshipment activity (TS) dropping by 9.06% YOY to 67,918 TEU, and container activity (TEU) declined by 6.52% on a yearly basis to 157,743 TEU by April 2024.

On a monthly basis, total container activity dropped by 25.87% to stand at 46,715 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), while container activity (TEU) dropped by 15.82% for the month of April 2024 compared to the previous month, to reach 35,035 TEU. Similarly, transshipment activity (TS) declined by 45.41% to 11,680TEU for the month of April 2024, compared to 17,123 TEU in March 2024.

In more details, the transshipment volume of CMA CGM, one of the two major shipping lines operating at the Port of Beirut, decreased annually by 8.85% to stand at 53,220 TEU by April 2024. However, transshipment volume of MSC, the other major line, increased by 39.19% YOY to 5,260 TEU by the same month. Furthermore, the local volume of CMA CGM dropped by 13.28% to reach 45,864 TEU, and local volume of MSC fell by 12.05% to stand at 32,829 TEU by the month of April 2024.
