According to the Association of Lebanese Banks (ABL), the number and value of cleared checks declined by 2.29% and 0.50% annually to reach 3.96 million and $22.44B by April 2017, respectively.
The number and value of Foreign Currency denominated checks declined by 5.75% and 3.64% annually to 2.53 million and $15.41B by April 2017, respectively.
However, cleared checks denominated in Lebanese Pounds (LBP) increased both in volume and value; The number and value of LBP denominated checks grew by 4.48% and 7.16% annually and amounted to 1.43 million and $7.03B, respectively.
In the month of April alone, the number and value of total cleared checks declined by 6.18% and 5.81% to 956,684 and $5.34B, respectively.
