According to the Central Bank of Lebanon (BdL), Electricity production reached 6,979M of Kilowatt-Hour (KWH) by June 2016 compared to 6,283M KWH during the same period last year, posting an 11.08% yearly upturn.

According to the Daily Star, the rise was mainly due to the rehabilitation of Jiyyeh and Zouk Mikael power plants. Moreover, among the plans to boost electricity is the leasing of two additional power barges, construction of new plants and resorting to alternative energy such as wind farms and solar energy.

On a positive note, an electricity station in north Lebanon’s Tripoli was inaugurated. The new Bahsas station is set to increase the electrical capacity to 140 MW in the surrounding areas.
