BSI Down by the End of the Second Week of March

The BLOM Stock Index (BSI) compiled by BLOMInvest Bank on a daily basis decreased weekly by 2.66% to reach 1,683.396 on March 15, 2024 down from 1,729.314 on March 8, 2024. Similarly, the market capitalization on the Beirut Stock Exchange (BSE) decreased weekly from $17.72B to $17.25B. The average volume and value of trades also totaled 19,623 shares worth $578,832 compared to 21,039 shares worth $507,016 last week.

 

On the Beirut Stock Exchange (BSE), the real estate sector grasped the lion’s share of the BSE’s trading value with a stake of 59.72%, while the banking sector and industrial sector grasped the respective remaining shares of 1.91% and 38.38%.  The most noteworthy trades throughout the mentioned period included:

  • Solidere (A) shares decreased by 0.6% to settle at $74.95/ share
  • Solidere (B) shares dropped by 3.73% to settle at $72.2/ share
  • Holcim increased by 0.17% to settle at $59.6/ share

 

 

As for the BLOM Preferred Shares Index (BPSI), it remained constant at 39.62 by March 15, 2024.

 

The Arab stock market improved this week as S&P Pan Arab rose by 0.77% to stand at 1,003.53 points and MSCI increased by 0.91% to reach 1,046.51 points by the end of this week. Moreover, the bourse of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and UAE expanded respectively by 1.20%, 0.48% and 0.28% while bourse of Tunisia contracted by 0.22% by March 15, 2024.

 

In the US, S&P 500 expanded by 0.52% to stand at 5,150.48 points by March 15, 2024 compared to the previous week. As for Europe’s stock market, CAC 40 France, FTSE 100 Britain, and DAX Germany expanded respectively by 1.95%, 1.04% and 0.97% to stand at 8,184.74, 7,739.72, and 17,986.45 points by March 15, 2023.

 

Elsewhere, NIKKEI contracted by 2.47% by the end of the week to stand at 38,707.64 points by March 15, 2024.
