Port of Beirut: Container Activity up 0.19% by February 2024

Total container activity including transshipment (TEU+TS) slightly increased by a yearly 0.19% to stand at 116,529 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) for the month of February 2024, with transshipment activity (TS) adding 12.1% YOY to 39,115 TEU, while container activity (TEU) dropped by 4.91% on a yearly basis to 77,414 TEU by February 2024.

On a monthly basis, total container activity dropped by 3.03% to stand at 56,765 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), while container activity (TEU) dropped by 12.73% for the month of February 2024 compared to same month last year to reach 35,657 TEU. Meanwhile, transshipment activity (TS) grew by 19.41% to 21,108 TEU for the month of February 2024, compared to 17,677 TEU in February 2023.

In more details, the transshipment volume of CMA CGM, one of the two major shipping lines operating at the Port of Beirut, increased annually by 10.97% to stand at 31,975 TEU by February 2024. Meanwhile, transshipment volume of MSC, the other major line, dropped by 43.77% YOY to 848 TEU by the same month. Furthermore, the local volume of CMA CGM dropped by 16.98% to reach 21,554 TEU, and local volume of MSC fell by 10.18% to stand at 16,229 TEU by the month of February 2024.
