Port of Beirut’s Revenues Registered a Minor Drop by September 2018

Port of Beirut (PoB) registered a marginal 0.06% yearly decline in its revenues during the first nine months of the year to reach $174.36M as imported volume dropped from 9871 tons to 7885 tons by August 2018.

Total container activity including transshipment (TEU+TS) recorded an increase of 2.62% to reach 977,138 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) by September 2018. In details, container activity excluding transshipment decreased by 0.98% to 653,861 TEU, while transshipment activity alone increased by 10.77% to 323,277 TEU by September 2018.

The volume of the merchandise passing through the port declined by 7.12% to reach 5,945 tons by September 2018 compared to 6,400 tons for the same period in 2017. Following the same trend, the number of cars shipped to Lebanon dropped from 79,846 cars by September 2017 to 52,956 cars by September 2018.

In details, MSC’s total volume saw an increase of 1.73% to stand at 193,000 TEU by September 2018. However, CMA CGM’s transshipment volume witnessed a decrease of 3.06% and reached 115,643 TEU.
