Number of Airport Passengers Up by yearly 55.56% By September 2022

The activity at Rafic Hariri International Airport improved remarkably in 2022. The number of Beirut’s International airport passengers added 55.56% and recorded 4,834,029 passengers by September 2022 compared to 3,107,408 passengers during the same period last year.

The breakdown of the airport’s statistics revealed that total arrivals jumped by 59.83% year-on-year (YOY) to stand at 2,362,230 by September 2022. By the same token, the number of departing passengers climbed by a yearly 55.67% to reach 2,445,501 over the same period. Nevertheless, transit passengers decreased from 58,581 by September 2021 to 26,298 transit passengers by September 2022.

When looking at the annual changes; for the month of September 2022 alone, airport passengers reached 649,808 passengers up from 463,157 in September 2021, with 278,929 arrivals and 367,992 departures instead of 183,225 and 273,424, respectively, in September 2021. Meanwhile transit passengers stood at 2,887 down from 6,508 same month last year.

As for the monthly changes, the activity at Rafic Hariri International Airport deteriorated in September, since total passengers decreased remarkably by 18.21% (or by 144,660 passengers) in September compared to the month of August. In fact, arrivals and departures fell respectively by 12.46% and 21.93% in September, which is justified by the end of the summer season. Furthermore, we expect that the activity at the airport will fall further in October and November as they constitute low season.
