The BLOM Stock Index (BSI) compiled by BLOMInvest Bank on a daily basis recorded a weekly drop by 1.15% to reach 1,718.147 on July 7, 2023 down from 1,738.085 on July 3, 2023. The market capitalization on the Beirut Stock Exchange (BSE) decreased weekly from $17.81B to $17.61B. The average volume and value of trades also totaled 4,033 shares worth $309,734 compared to 25,113 shares worth $ 1,089,518 last week.

On the Beirut Stock Exchange (BSE), the real estate sector grasped the lion’s share of the BSE’s trading value with a stake of 98.81%, while banking and industrial sectors grasped respectively the rest of the stake of 0.69% and 0.5%.The most noteworthy trades throughout the mentioned period included:

  • Solidere (A) shares fell by 2.66% to settle at $76.8/ share
  • Solidere (B) shares rose by 0.07% to settle at $75.15/ share
  • Audi GDR shares rose by 1.45% to settle at $1.4/ share

As for the BLOM Preferred Shares Index (BPSI), it remained constant at 39.62 by July 7th, 2023.

In the Arab region, the MSCI dropped weekly by 2.03% by July 7, to stand at 984.69. Meanwhile, S&P pan Arab slightly increased by 0.65% to stand at 953.83 by July 7. Moreover, the bourse of Kuwait and UAE expanded each respectively by 2.32% and 4.42%, while the bourse of Egypt contracted by 3.19% by July 7, 2023.

The US stock market contracted weekly as S&P 500 and NASDAQ dropped respectively by 0.99% and 1% to stand at 4,411.59 and 13,679.04 by July 7. Indeed, investors braced for upcoming US jobs data to assess its impact on potential Federal Reserve interest rate increases, resulting in subdued stock market activity.

Major European stock markets recorded a worse performance this week as DAX, CAC40 France and FTSE 100 dropped respectively by 3.26%, 3.9% and 3.58% to stand at 15,557.49, 1,420.2 and 7,257.63 respectively on July 7. Similarly, NIKKEI Japan dropped weekly by 4.04% to stand at 32,388.42 on July 7, 2023.
