According to BDL’s latest monetary report, the BOP recorded a surplus of $1.23B by May 2023, far exceeding the deficit over the same period last year of $2.1B. Accordingly, Net foreign Assets (NFAs) of BDL fell by $778.2M, as BDL has continued to make some intervention on Forex market through the “Sayrafa” platform while the NFAs of commercial banks rose by $2B by May 2023.
On a monthly basis, the BOP recorded a deficit of $5.6M in May 2023, where the NFA of BDL rose by $5.4M and NFA of banks fell by $11M. Concerning the latter, the main changes on the assets side, claims on non-resident financial sector increased by $75M and currency and deposits with non-resident central banks increased by $22M. On the liabilities side, non-resident customers deposit increased by $54M and non-resident financial sector liabilities increased by $50M.
