Most Global Equity Markets expanded this week

The BLOM Stock Index (BSI) compiled by BLOMInvest Bank on a daily basis decreased weekly by 0.12% to reach 1,935.993 on February 8, 2024 down from 1,938.384 on February 2nd, 2024. Meanwhile, the market capitalization on the Beirut Stock Exchange (BSE) increased weekly from $19,73B to $19,84B. The average volume and value of trades also totaled 14,251 worth $781,982 compared to 81,061 shares worth $3,597,892 last week.

On the Beirut Stock Exchange (BSE), the real estate sector grasped the lion’s share of the BSE’s trading value with a stake of 99.53%, while the banking sector grasped the remaining shares of 0.47%.  The most noteworthy trades throughout the mentioned period included:

  • Solidere (A) shares rose by 0.7% to settle at $86.4/ share
  • Solidere (B) shares dropped by 1.48% to settle at $86.75/ share

As for the BLOM Preferred Shares Index (BPSI), it remained constant at 39.62 by February 8, 2024.

The Arab stock market expanded this week as S&P Pan Arab and MSCI increased respectively by 0.85% and 1.81% to stand at 984.59 and 999.84 points by the end of this week. Moreover, the bourse of Saudi Arabia expanded by 3.13% while bourse of Morocco, Qatar and Tunisia contracted respectively by 2.85%, 0.98% and 0.46% by February 8, 2024.

In the US, S&P 500 and NASDAQ expanded respectively by 1.81% and 2.57% to stand at 4,995.06 and 15,756.64 points by February 8, 2024 compared to the previous week. Indeed, US stocks’ Gains were fueled by optimism that a solid economy will continue fueling corporate profits.

As for Europe’s stock market, DAX Germany, CAC 40 and FTSE 100 Britain expanded respectively, by 0.49%, 0.83% and 0.3% to stand at 16,942,07, 7651.64 and 7,644.99 points by February 8, 2023. Elsewhere, NIKKEI expanded by 2.37% by the end of the week to stand at 36,863.28 points by February 8, 2024.
