BSI and global markets down by the end of the first week of April

The BLOM Stock Index (BSI) compiled by BLOMInvest Bank on a daily basis decreased weekly by 0.64% to reach 1,724.662 on April 5, 2024 down from 1,735.773 on March 28, 2024. Similarly, the market capitalization on the Beirut Stock Exchange (BSE) declined weekly from $17.79B to $17.68B. The average volume and value of trades also totaled 5,769 shares worth $347,177 compared to 55,292 shares worth $826,438 last week.

On the Beirut Stock Exchange (BSE), the real estate sector grasped the lion’s share of the BSE’s trading value with a stake of 99.28%, while the banking sector grasped the remaining shares of 0.72%.  The most noteworthy trades throughout the mentioned period included:

  • Solidere (A) shares increased by 0.48% to settle at $73.5/ share
  • Solidere (B) shares declined by 2.7% to settle at $72/ share
  • Audi Listed shares declined by 0.43% to settle at $2.34/ share

As for the BLOM Preferred Shares Index (BPSI), it remained constant at 39.62 by April 5, 2024.

The Arab stock market expanded this week as S&P Pan Arab rose by 0.6% to stand at 995.59 points by the end of this week. Moreover, the bourse of Tunisia and Saudi Arabia expanded respectively by 0.36% and 1.11% while bourse of Kuwait and Qatar contracted by 1.3% and 1.28% respectively by April 5, 2024.

In the US, S&P 500 contracted by 2.04% to stand at 5,147.21 points by April 5, 2024 compared to the previous week. As for Europe’s stock market, DAX Germany, CAC 40 France and FTSE 100 Britain contracted respectively by 1.95%, 2.01% and 0.56% to stand at 18,132.62, 8,040.97 and 7,907.8 points by April 5, 2024. Similarly, NIKKEI contracted by 3.41% by the end of the week to stand at 38,992.08 points by April 5, 2024.
